JAMMU, Aug 5: Kumar S of Tamil Nadu won National U-25 Chess Championship at IDPS School, Bathindi here.
Due to Section 144 imposed by the Government it was decided to declare the winner on basis of performance in seven rounds.
Despite lot of difficulties due to circumstances arises due to imposition of Section 144, team AJKCA done a wonderful job and made the arrangements for dropping all the players to airport, railway stations etc viz helping them in purchasing tickets.
Mohit Kumar Soni of Bihar got first runner-up trophy while Saypuri Srithan of Telengana got third position. All the three players scored equal 6 points and the winner was declared on the basis of Buckloz tie breaker rules.
A total of cash prizes of Rs1 lakh were distributed among the winners of top 25 positions.
“20 players from J&K State participated in this event which gave lot of exposure to the local players”, said Atul Kumar Gupta President AJKCA.
109 players from 22 States participated in this event. The event was organized by Crown Trust under the banner of All J&K Chess Association and J&K State Sports Council. The event was played under FIDE Laws of chess under Swiss System in which total 7 rounds were played. Local J&K players were very excited for this event being organized at their home State.
The event was allotted by AICF to J&K on the request of Atul Kumar Gupta President All J&K Chess Association. Raj Kumar DySP Prosecution was the organizing secretary of this event.
Among others present were Baldev Raj, Taranvir Singh Gujral, Kuljeet Singh Jamwal, Vikas Nanda, Dr AS Bhatia, Rakesh Kumar Gupta, Madhu Abrol and others. Suminder Singh MD IDPS personally monitored all the arrangements.
Nitin Shenvi, Pranesh Yadav, Anil Kotwal and Bindu Pathania worked as Arbiters in these events. Technical support was provided by Vivek Bharti, Ajit Singh, Ravi Sharma and Sunil Sharma.
Later, Atul Kumar Gupta President AJKCA distributed the prizes among the winners along with DySP Raj Kumar and Vikas Nanda.
