KU VC felicitates winners of various competitions

SRINAGAR, May 19: The eventful 10-day long earth day celebrations organized by the Department of Students Welfare (DSW) KU in collaboration with Department of Earth Sciences, University of Kashmir concluded here today.
On the concluding day, a valedictory / prize distribution function was held at KU`s Gandhi Bhawan Auditorium during which winners of various competitive events like Poster Making, Painting and Debating Competition held during the celebrations were felicitated by Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, Prof A M Shah with cash prizes, trophies and certificates.
While distributing the awards amongst the winners, Prof Shah said “Such competitions provide an opportunity to us to understand the problems concerning our environment and at the same time provide us an insight into the minds of our youth about what they feel on the issue of environment and economic development.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dean Students Welfare KU Prof Nilofer Khan, briefed the Vice Chancellor about the 10-day long events organized by DSW and Department of Earth Sciences in connection with the earth day celebrations.
Head Dept of Earth Sciences KU, Prof Shakil A Romshoo said that the motive of organizing such events was to spread the message across the various sections of society so that timely interventions could be made to avoid any ecological catastrophe.
In poster making, the first prize was won by Laveza Ajaz Khawaja from Presentation Convent School, while the second and third prize went to Salma Iqbal from Kashmir Harvard Educational Institute and Aakhiz Khursheed from Greenland Educational Institute.
The first consolation prize went to Ifrah Attar from Presentation Convent School and second consolation prize was claimed by Saif Hussain Mir from Burn Hall School.
In painting competition, the first prize was won by Badr U Nissa from Green Valley Educational Institute whereas the 2nd and 3rd prize was bagged by  Peerzada Talish Niyaz from DPS Srinagar and Mohammad Manaan Khan again from DPS Srinagar respectively.
The first consolation prize in this category went to Hakeem Ahrar from Burn Hall School and 2nd consolation prize to Jabeena Wani from Iqbal Memorial School, Bemina.
In debate competition, the first prize was won by Asma Zahoor from Department of English, KU whereas the 2nd was bagged by  Iqra Manzooor from Department of Law, KU.
The third prize was won by four participants namely Sajad Ul Haq from B Tech KU, Mahoor Miftah from Business School, KU,  Nairra Nissar Shah from Department of History, KU and Zia Malik from B Tech, KU.
The first and 2nd consolation prize went to Ambreen Hamadani from SKUAST and Syed Rameem Zehra from North Campus, KU.
Cultural Officer, Shahid Ali Khan conducted the proceedings of the function and also proposed the vote of thanks.
