JAMMU, Jan 20: Burhan-ud-Din Khateeb became the first student from the State of Jammu and Kashmir to have acquired a professional Bachelor of Design degree from prestigious National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmedabad, an Institute of National Importance established under NID ACT 2014.
With successful completion of his degree project titled “Repositioning Traditional Exploration in Paper Mache Craft of Kashmir”, a study done in collaboration with Craft Development Institute (CDI) of J&K, he has initiated the process of blending modern design technology with traditional crafts of the state. A student from MIER, Jammu, Burhan due to his passion in Designing, left his engineering carrier in NIIT Srinagar in 2011 to qualify the rigorous selection procedure of getting into NID through a three tier All India competition amongst thousands of aspirants from all over the country who compete for the meager 100 seats in the institute every year.
Born in 1992, the budding designer is the son of Kh. Parvaiz Iqbal Khateeb, an IAS officer presently posted as Transport Commissioner J&K and grandson of Sahitya Academy Award winner, poet and historian, Kh. Bashir Ahmed Khateeb from Bhaderwah.
