JAMMU, Aug 17: Twelve KCPS students namely Aadeesh Nargotra, Ojas Kapur, Mishika Mittal, Sulaksh Mehta, Karmanya Gupta, Vihaan Gupta, Karan Jain, Bhavyta Anand, HanumatSharma, Krishna Saproo, Swati Pawar and Samarth Gupta took part in SAI Model United Nations Conference 2020 hosted by SAI International School, Bhubaneswar.
It was a challenging online platform for students to build leadership skills, increase global literacy and expand critical thinking to foster international co-operation in solving global problems. Students participated in challenging debates on contemporary global issues to envisage innovative perspectives and to comprehend the world we live in.
The Conference was attended by 750 delegates from 34 schools located in Australia, Japan, UAE, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Vietnam, USA, Uganda and India.
The aim was to develop a culture of internationalism to spread global peace during the pandemic.
The opening session was graced by an inspiring video message from Secretary-General to the United Nations António Guterres who spoke on the importance of sustainable development for the future in all countries.
The inaugural session was attended by Ambassador Kelly Craft, Permanent Representative, US Mission to the United Nations at New York, Joel Reifman, Consul General, US Consulate General Hyderabad, Daniel Sim, Deputy Consul General, Australian Consulate Kolkata, Nick Low, Deputy High Commissioner United Kingdom, Kolkata and Dr Bijaya Kumar Sahoo, Founder and Mentor of SAI International Education Group and Advisor and Working President of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan, Government of Odisha, as keynote speakers.
Student delegates deliberated on global issues in 20 committees.
The Conference also witnessed a special Global Village session wherein students from Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, USA, Australia, Uganda, UAE and India participated in exchange of culture activities. They discussed and shared favourite parts of their own countries, their cuisine, and dance, art, craft and music forms.
Kceans did the school proud by winning many accolades. Hanumat Sharma was declared the Best Delegate. Vihaan Gupta, Krishna Saproo and Karan Jain got High commendations and Aadeesh Nargotra and Swati Pawar got Special Mention.
The students trained by MUN Coordinators Bhavna Langer and Deepti Sharma won great appreciation.
