Kavi, Simran win Reasi District Chess titles

JAMMU, Mar 1: Kavi Verma and Simran won the men and women titles respectively in the one-day District Reasi Chess Championship held under the banner of All J&K Chess Association (AJKCA) at Amba Kids School Panthal in district Reasi today.
The under-15 boys title went to Rahul Sharma while girls under-15 trophy bagged by Veenakshi. Similarly, in under-11 category, Shahzaib Akhter emerged as winner.
In total, 48 boys and girls took part in the Reasi district chess meet. Those winners were presented with Rs 500 cash prize each by the Association while all the participants were given away participation certificates.
Former Joint Secretary of the J&K Sports Council and sports promoter, Shiv Kumar Sharma was chief guest, who along with guest of honour, Chairman Block Development Council Panthal, Chander Mohan Singh presented the cash prizes and the certificates.
Also present were Atul Kumar Gupta (president AJKCA), Ashwani Katoch (Principal Amba School Panthal).
The technical panel in the district meet was led by Vivek Gupta, who conducted the matches under international rules with Swiss software.
Speaking on the occasion, Shiv Kumar Sharma lavished praise on Atul Kumar Gupta for promoting chess at grassroots level and advised young chess enthusiasts to take up the game of Chess so as to improve their intelligence level.
