SRINAGAR, June 21: The Kashmir Province Chess Championships 2025 for Senior, Junior and Sub-Junior categories for boys and girls concluded at Srinagar Sports Club, Wazirbagh, here today.
The event was organized by the All J&K Chess Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council. Over 130 participants from various districts of the Kashmir division showcased their strategic brilliance and talent during the multi-day competition.
The concluding ceremony was marked by the distribution of trophies, mementoes and certificates to winners and runners-up. In the Senior Boys category, Sahil Rashid Kumar emerged unbeaten, winning all six rounds to clinch the 1st position, followed by Javid Ahmad Mir and Shahid Farooq. Among Senior Girls, Fatima claimed the top spot, while Minaha Jan and Fatima-ul-Zohara secured 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
Hamza Malik dominated the Championships by winning gold in multiple age groups U-11, U-13, U-15, and U-17 showcasing exceptional talent. Other standout performers included Fatima Showkat, Malik Huzaif Bin Zahid, and Fatima Tu Zohra across various girls’ categories.
The Under-7 categories were won by Zoran Tariq Sheikh (Boys) and Mehar-un-Nisa (Girls), underlining the growing interest in Chess among the youngest age groups. The tournament featured intense and thrilling matches, reflecting the rising chess culture in the Valley.
