Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep win ties in U-17 Football tourney

JAMMU, Dec 12: Heavy rain and inclement weather conditions played spoilsport, forcing the organizers to make changes in the fixture for smooth conduct and completion of the 63rd National School Games Under-17 Boys Football Tournament, being organized by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, J&K at different venues, here.
After heavy rains lashed Jammu yesterday and continued today, the organizers were left with no option than to hold knockout matches. Otherwise, the schedule of the matches was as per league cum knockout fixture, which was hardly possible after the loss of one and a half days play in this 5-day long tournament, wherein record number of 35 teams’ are taking part.
However, in the revised fixture three matches were held in the afternoon session today at two venues of Sainik School Nagrota and MA Stadium, Jammu.
At MA Stadium, Tamil Nadu defeated NVS by three goals to nil (3-0). Gopinnath, Ariadhaya and Jaya were the goal scorers from Tamil Nadu.
At Sainik School Nagrota, Karnataka defeated Daman & Diu by two goals to nil (2-0). Manik Kant and SS Arunappa were the goal scorers.
In another match played at Sainik School ground, Nagrota, Lakshadweep defeated Telangana by four goals to two (4-2) via tie-breaker.
