
Runs 50 K in 7.26 hours

JAMMU, Nov 24: Ace veteran athlete, Kanu Priya Garg has become the first ultra woman of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory by running 50 kilometers in the Great Run of Punjab, clocking 7.26 hours.
The lady with steel nerves showed extraordinary athletic skills, besides motor-ability and endurance to complete the run 34 minutes before the cut of time of 8 hours to finish second in the women category.
With this feat, Kanu Priya has become inspiration not only for the women runners in Jammu and Kashmir, but for the runners of the entire country.
She has already run 5 Half Marathons including ADHM and has also finished TMM Full Marathon last year. She has also the honour of being pacer in 21 Kilometers Jammu Half Marathon (JHM) and Bathinda Half Marathon (BHM).
Another runner from Jammu, Vikram Garg, Kanu’s husband finished 21 kilometers in 2.11 hours.
The Great Run of Punjab Season-2 started today from Chandigarh and passed through various villages of Punjab.
The distance options available were 3k, 10K, 21K, 50K and 200K.
The 50K run was from Chandigarh to Ropar with a cut off time of 8 hours, while 200K run is from Chandigarh to Amritsar to be covered in three days.
All the other runs started and concluded in Chandigarh today, while the 200 K Run is in progress.
There were around 600 runners who participated in various categories. The hydration and medical support was remarkably arranged by the organisers.
The run was organised with a vision to spread the message of greatness of Punjab.
“90 percent of the run is trough villages, avoiding the highways as much as possible. There is overall a flat road for runners with a few kilometres possible urban trails,” claimed organisers.
The Great Run of Punjab is India’s largest multicity staged ultra run, covering 14 villages and five cities.
