DHAKA, Mar 1: J&K’s ace player, Hiteshwar Singh blossomed as India maintained its supremacy in Roll Ball by winning 4th Roll Ball World Cup, here.
In the nail-biting summit clash, India defeated Iran in a close contest by eight goals to seven (8-7) including a last minute goal, thus retaining the World Cup.
Roll Ball World Cup which was played at Dhaka, Bangladesh from February 18 to February 25, 2017, saw 39 countries from Asia, Europe, Africa, Latin America and Arab participating in it.
En-route to final, India defeated Oman, Salvania, Kenya, Argentina, Senegal and Uganda.
In the semifinal, India defeated Kenya by 8-4.
Despite his wrist fracture due to massive collision with the Kenyan player before the finals, local boy Hiteshwar refused to go for plaster and opted to play with the help of pain killers.
The final saw superb display of Roll Ball skill by the players of both the countries in a ding dang battle of nerves for maintaining supremacy.
What was amazing to see was the local lad Hiteshwar playing a pivotal role for India at the crucial juncture, when India was trailing by 6-2 at half time, and the star braving his injury scored 2 brilliant goals, thus helping his country retain the initiative back from Iran.
Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hassina was the chief guest on the closing ceremony, who gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up teams.
The Prime Minister was all praise for the organisers for holding global sporting extravaganza in a perfect and professional way.
She said it was an honour for a Bangladesh to hold a World Cup which witnessed participation of 39 countries.
