J&K’s Chitra emerges top scorer in India

JAMMU, Dec 22: After becoming the top run scorer for J&K in the Senior Women’s T20 Tournament this season with 148 runs and 9 wickets, talented medium-pace bowler and top-order batter Chitra Singh Jamwal of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) has now emerged as the nation’s top run scorer in the league phase of the prestigious Women’s U-23 T20 Trophy.
With an excellent strike rate of 91.25, and a healthy average of 97.33, Gutsy Chitra amassed 292 runs in the seven innings of the seven matches she participated in this tournament. In second place on this list with 266 runs is Maharashtra’s Ishwari Savkar.
Promising Chitra scored three half-centuries with unbeaten 68* as her top score, apart from unconquered 48*, 45 and 22* runs in the other three innings’. Though Chitra scored three and missed two fifties, Aradhana D Bisht scored 2 fifties in the league phase of this tournament.
Chitra smashed 36 fours and 2 sixes in the tournament, just behind Savarkar’s 48 boundaries, besides taking 7 wickets in the U-23 tournament.
“I credit my success to the facilities being provided to the players by JKCA at home and the pat and promote attitude of the Administrators and the officials as well, besides sheer-dint of hard work of my parents,” maintained Ms Chitra.
“Chitra has performed exceptionally well throughout the season and has made everyone proud,” said Brig Anil Gupta, Member-Administration JKCA.
Mithun Manhas, Member Cricket Operations and Development JKCA has termed Chitra as a special talent, who possessed all that is required to blossom at the highest level. Member, Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) JKCA, Roopali Slathia, Senior Women’s Selection Committee JKCA including Surabhi Dadheechi (Chairperson), Ankita Jalla, Masrat Ahad and JKCA Head Coaches for women–Chetan B Dhingra (Sr) and Meenu Singh Slathia (U-23) have lavished praise on Chitra for her achievement.
