JAMMU, Oct 22: J&K’s explosive batting all-rounder Abdul Samad has got the nod of Mumbai Indians selectors for attending the selection trials at Mumbai to pick their team for the next edition of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL).
Samad has been called for the trials after his good show with the bat in the ongoing prestigious Vijay Hazare One-Day Tournament.
He scored three power-packed fifties in the Tournament against the formidable teams, which included group-topper Gujarat and Tamil Nadu also. He was instrumental in helping Jammu and Kashmir to score a decent total of 279 runs against Gujarat by scoring brisk 68 off just 53 balls, studded with 7 massive sixes. Gujarat possessed a good bowling unit, having the likes of Axar Patel and Piyush Chawla in their ranks.
Samad is a right-handed batsman, who can bowl right-arm wrist spinning slowers also.
“It brings me blissful feeling to be part of the Mumbai Indians Selection Camp. I will try my level best to make it to the final squad as I was waiting in the wings for this opportunity,” said ecstatic Samad while talking to EXCELSIOR before leaving for Mumbai.
J&K’s senior team mentor cum coach, Irfan Pathan believes that promising Samad possessed almost all that is required to blossom at the higher levels.
