REASI, Mar 29: Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) wrestler Kirpal Singh smashed Hoshyar Singh of Thillo and won the wrestling competition organised by District Police under Civic Action Programme (CAP) at Pouni.
Sanjay Singh Rana, Additional Superintendent of Police was the chief guest whereas Rajiv Khajuria, BDO Pouni was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Rana stressed on the need of discipline and sportsmanship among the youth to create a healthy environment for growth and creating more opportunities.
32 wrestlers from various parts of the district participated. A total of 21 bouts were played between the wrestlers which were witnessed by a huge gathering of people.
Cash prizes were distributed among all the participating wrestlers.
The Referee, Lehar Singh, a veteran Captian of the Indian Army who had played many national and international wrestling matches representing the nation, was specially honoured by police for his outstanding contribution for the promotion of this traditional game.
The matches were officiated by Nazir Ahmed whereas Nadeem Bhat was the stage secretary. Narinder Singh Tony acted as cashier of the event.
Among others present were Ishtyaq Ahmed Kacho, DySP, Sarpanch Pouni Ajeet Kumar, Sarpanch Kanha Ram Shri Lal, PSI Maninder Singh of police station Pouni, etc.
The competition was organised under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Vivek Gupta.
