JAMMU, Apr 20: Bringing pride to the Union Territory and the nation, three talented Wushu players from Jammu & Kashmir clinched gold medals at the prestigious Moscow Wushu Stars Championship held from April 15 to 19 in Russia.
The trio—Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh, Ansa Chisti and Jiya Manhas—displayed exceptional skill and determination to secure top honours in their respective categories. Their stellar performances contributed significantly to India’s dominant showing at the international event.
Bhanu Pratap Singh and Ansa Chisti, who are currently training at the Asian Games National Coaching Camp in Ahmedabad, have emerged as strong contenders for the upcoming Asian Games. The duo is scheduled to participate in the Ranking Tournament from May 2 to 5 in Ahmedabad, followed by the final selection trials slated between June 10 and 15.
Jiya Manhas once again proved her consistency and class by successfully defending her gold medal, marking back-to-back victories at the championship and reinforcing her position as one of the most promising Wushu athletes from the region.
Office bearers of the Wushu Association of J&K, including President Vijay Saraf, Vice Presidents Ranjeet Kalra and Sadat Aslam Wani, Treasurer Sohit Sharma and General Secretary Bhavneet, congratulated the athletes for their remarkable achievement.
Dronacharya Awardee and National Chief Coach Kuldeep Handoo lauded the Indian contingent, which secured an impressive haul of 23 gold, 11 silver and 4 bronze medals. He extended special praise to the J&K trio and wished them success in forthcoming international events.
