J&K wins 26 medals in Sqay, takes tally to 35 in 61st National School Games

JAMMU, Jan 14: Winning 26 medals with one gold, 10 silver and 15 bronze  in Sqay Martial Arts, the State of Jammu and Kashmir has crafted space on the Country’s Sports Map by taking the medal tally to 35, with 3 gold, 10 silver and 22 bronze in the 61st National School Games held in various disciplines of sports this season.
Apart from winning big haul of medals in Sqay, J&K won medals in Under-17 girls’ Cricket, Under-19 boys Speedball, Under-14 boys’ Football, Under-19 boys Roller Skating, Under-14 boys, Under-17 girls and Under-19 boys Fencing event, besides Sqay Under-14, 17 and 19 boys and girls event.
Terming the achievement as brilliant, the Director General Youth Services and Sports, Jahangir Mir said that the Department of Youth Services and Sports is committed to promote sports in the State and fulfill the dreams of former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
The DG Sports said that the Department hosted three National Level events this season including Under-19 Boys Football, Under-17 Girls Cricket and National Level Women Sports Competition, besides making 1095 players to take part in 61st National School Games, organized within and outside the State.
