JAMMU, Apr 20: Jammu & Kashmir Under-19 boys team qualified for the pre-quarterfinals in the team event of the 87th Inter-State Junior & Youth National Table Tennis Championships here today.
The team comprising Ritvik Gupta, Pratham Raina, Samarth Nischal and Saiyam Nischal put up an impressive show in the league stage, defeating Nagaland and Manipur by 3-0 and 3-1 margins respectively. The boys, however, suffered a narrow defeat against Assam in a closely contested match.
Displaying fine coordination and composure, the team managed to secure a berth in the knockout stage. Coach Gurvinder Singh lauded the players for their disciplined performance and fighting spirit.
The achievement has been made possible with the consistent support of the J&K Sports Council, reflecting the growing standard of table tennis in the Union Territory. The championship is being organised under the aegis of the Table Tennis Federation of India.
