J&K Men, UP Women emerge winners

North Zone 1st Senior Rollball C’ship concludes

JAMMU, Jan 11: J&K Men and UP Women teams emerged winners of North Zone 1st Senior Men and Women Rollball Championship, organized by J&K Rollball Association, under the aegis of the J&K Sports Council and co-sponsored by J&K Tourism and CRPF 38 Battalion at MA Stadium Skating Rink, here today.
In the championship more than 150 players from across the North-Zone of India including J&K, Punjab, Haryana, UP, Chandigarh and Delhi participated.
In Men’s category, J&K emerged winner by defeating UP by 9-4, while Delhi remained at 3rd place by trouncing Haryana by 5-3, besides in Women category, UP defeated J&K by 2-1 to emerge winner, while Haryana stood 3rd.
The tournament was declared open by Ashok Singh, Divisional Sports Officer of J&K Sports Council on January 9 in presence of Satish Gupta Manager, Indoor Complex and Madan Khajuria as guests of honor.
In the glittering prize distribution function, Anil Sharma JKAS was the chief guest, while Rahul Malpotra, Deputy Commandant 38 Battalion was guest of honor along with Raj Pal, Assistant Commandant.
Madhu Sharma, general secretary of Rollball Association of J&K was overall incharge of the event, while Sudhir Singh, Rajesh Gupta, Rita Rehan, Vaishali Begal, Satish Koul were members of the organizing committee.
In his address, Anil Sharma, chairman of the Association praised the organizing committee for conducting the event in a very professional way by following all the COVID SOPs. He further assured the players that he will definitely take up their concern not including in the list of game recognized by the Government in New Sports Policy recently announced by UT Administration despite the fact that DoPT Government of India has included Rollball in its list of games under which players can get job under Sports quota.
Madhu Sharma extended his gratitude to Advisor Farooq Khan, Nuzhat Gul, Secretary Sports Council, Vivekanand Rai, Director Tourism Jammu and Dhirender Verma, Commandant 38th Battalion CRPF for extending support to the Association in hosting the championship successfully.
