JAMMU, Nov 7: J&K Specially Abled Cricket team created history and lifted the trophy of the 2nd edition of the Sardar Patel National Divyang T20 Cup title, sponsored by Indian Bank at Lucknow, today.
Brajesh Pathak, Dy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh handed over the trophy and cash award of Rs five lakh to the winners in the presence of the tournament’s Brand Ambassador, Dr (HC) Deepa Malik, (Padma Shree, Khel Ratna and Arjuna Awardee), Ashwani Kumar, Executive Director, Indian Bank, Ravi Chauhan, Secretary DCCI and Sqn. Ldr. Abhai Pratap Singh, Jt. Secy DCCI.
The 2nd season of the tournament commenced on October 31 wherein Indian Bank joined hands with Kotak Life Insurance, Universal Sompo General Insurance and Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance to give the much-needed fillip to turn this tournament into a sporting event.
In the finals, the J & K team trounced Haryana by 16 runs. J&K made 87 by losing all wickets in 16.2 overs, while Haryana bundled out at 71 runs in 18.3 overs. Aamir Hassan from J&K was declared as man of the match, while Wasim Iqbal was adjudged as man of the series for his great all round performance. Anuj of Haryana was adjudged the best batsman and S Prashanth of Hyderabad was best bowler of the tournament.
The tournament was the biggest ever cricket platform for differently abled cricket players and had the highest amount of prize money ever given. Nearly 400 players and officials from 20 different States participated in the tournament.
Rajesh Gill, former Ranji player & mentor of J&K Physically Challenged Cricket Team greeted the J&K team for the brilliant performance in the national tournament and created history by lifting the national level tournament.
Rajesh Gill also said that it is because of the blessings of DGP Dilbag Singh, the J&K Specially Abled Cricket team was formed in the year 2017 and so many tournaments was organized under the banner of J&K Police and Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu which always stood forefront to groom the J&K players.
