J&K judokas win 16 medals in 8th National Blind Judo C’ship

JAMMU, Nov 11: For the first time, J&K blind judokas won 16 medals in the 8th National Blind Judo Championship, which was held at Hyderabad Talangana.
The 30 members Judo team (16 boys and 14 girls) was accompanied by Munish, Seema and Deepika Wazir as care taker and team manager.
All these judokas were trained by Senior Judo Coach Suraj Bhan Singh of J&K Sports Council.
The team won 4 gold medals, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals in different age and weight groups. In addition, Shahnaz Akhter was declared as Best Judoka in Sub Junior Girls (U-15 year age) and also won Sub Junior Girls winner trophy in said Championship.
On their return, the medal winners were felicitated at LBM School for Sightless Girls Roop Nagar, which is run by National Blind Federation (NBF).
The chief guest on the occasion was Former MLA Jammu West Sat Sharma and guest of honour Sunita Gupta, Corporator Ward Number 37. Rakesh Corporator Roop Nagar, Ravish Mengi social workers and President, Urvashi Gupta, Vice President BJP Jammu West and Vikas Gupta General Secretary J&K Judo Association, Principal Nivedita, Convener Mohinder K Badyal (NBF) and Judo Coach Suraj Bhan Singh were also present on the occasion.
In Sub Junior (Girls), Shahnaz Akhter and Fiza Johra bagged first and second positions respectively in below 30 kg category, in below 35 kg category, Riya Devi and Sakshi Devi bagged second and third positions respectively, in 40 kg, Bhumika Chib clinched first position, in below 45 kg, Mehak clinched second position and in above 45 kg, Adiba Choudhary and Nazia Akhter bagged first and second positions respectively.
I Junior Girls, Manisha Devi clinched third position in below 44 kg and in below 48 kg, Nazia Akhter bagged third position.
In Senior Women, Pooja Bali bagged second position.
In Sub Junior Boys, Tariq Hussain and Abrar Ahmed bagged second and third positions respectively in below 30 kg and in below 35 kg, Anshuman Sharma clinched second position.
In Senior Men, Imam Hussain clinched third position in below 90 kg.
