J&K Gymnasts win 12 medals in 62nd National School Games

JAMMU, Jan 13: Bringing laurels to their sponsoring agency-the Department of Youth Services and Sports, besides Jammu and Kashmir Gymnastics Association and the State of Jammu and Kashmir, the State Gymnasts clinched 12 medals in the 62nd National School Games Gymnastics Championship held at Rai-Sonepat in Haryana, recently.
J&K won 2 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze medals in the Championship.
In Under-17 girls, ace Gymnasts Bavleen Kour and Stuti Gupta sparkled and won 8 medals between them, with Bavleen clinching 5 and Stuti claiming 3.
Bavleen bagged 2 gold medals in Hoop and Rope events, silver each in Individual all-round and Team event and a bronze in Ball event, Stuti claimed silver each in Ball and Team event and a bronze in Clubs event. Nandani Lakhotra also won individual bronze in Hoop event.
J&K Under-17 girls team comprising of Bavleen, Stuti, Nandini and Vandhana clinched silver medal in Team Championship, while Maharashtra won the gold medal in this championship.
Meanwhile, in Under-19 girls, J&K team comprising of Sneha Dewan, Tawishi Singh, Tanu Balowria and Mithali Meghul bagged silver medal in the Team championship, while Maharashtra again won gold medal in this age group.
J&K’s Sneha won2 Individual bronze medals in All-round and Ball events, while Tawishi Singh claimed 1 Individual bronze medal in Ribbon event in this age group.
The Director Youth Services and Sports, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmed has lauded the efforts of the Gymnasts for this achievement.
