JAMMU, Feb 12: Jammu and Kashmir women team has clinched two gold and one bronze medals in the ongoing All India Open National Canoe, Polo and Dragon Boat Championship, being held at Udaipur in Rajasthan.
Performing exceptionally well, the women team remained one of the favourites in the ongoing Championship.
According to reports reaching here, Jammu and Kashmir won 2 gold medals in 2000 meters women and 500 meters women Dragon boat races. They also got a bronze in 500 meters Canoe polo.
The state team has also reached in finals in three events -Mixed 500 m men/women, 500 meters men and Canoe Polo men.
President Jammu and Kashmir Water Sports (Kayaking and Canoeing) Association and Member Legislative Council, Firdous Tak congratulated the team for its performance. “The players in Jammu and Kashmir work with limited resources and infrastructure but it is their hard-work and determination which helps them to win medals and excel at the national scene”, he said.
Tak lauded the efforts of the internationally reputed kayaking and canoeing coach, Bilquis Mir for this achievement.
The All India Open National Canoe Polo and Dragon Boat Championship is being held at Udaipur in Rajasthan. 32-member contingent from Jammu and Kashmir is participating in the event under JK Water Sports (Kayaking and Canoeing) Association.
The other participating teams include Haryana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Chandigarh, HP, MP, Bihar, Kerala, Delhi, Indian Navy, ITBP and Rajasthan.
