J&K Fencing team shines in Nat’l Games

JAMMU, Sept 30: J&K Fencing women’s sabre team shined in the ongoing National Games in Gujarat and secured bronze medal for Jammu and Kashmir, today.
This is the first medal for J&K in the ongoing National Games by J&K Fencing team which comprising of Shreya Gupta, Rishika Khajuria, Jaspreet Kour and Krithi Kotwal gave an excellent display of fencing and defeated Gujarat in a neck to neck fight in quarterfinals.
In the semifinal, J&K team was defeated by Tamil Naidu by 29-45. The Tamil Naidu was represented by Olympian Bhavani Devi and was instrumental in taking the match away from J&K.
Meanwhile, Secretary J&K Sports Nuzhut Gull congratulated the team for winning laurels for J&K UT and hoped this momentum of winning medals by our players shall continue in the ongoing National Games.
The president of J&K Amateur Fencing Association, MJ Sharma also appreciated the performance of the fencing team and said it is the hard work of sports council coaches like Shotu Lal Sharma and Rachna Jamwal and other senior players which is bringing such fruitful results.
