Jammu XI registers win against Army XI in Handball

JAMMU, Apr 30: Jammu XI today made it a 42-38 win against a Jammu based unit team of the Indian Army in first of the series of events being organised by Arun Sharma Sports and Social Welfare Trust to support and popularise the game of Handball in J&K.
The competition took place at the newly established Handball ground and training facility at Shri Sanatan Dharam Sabha School, Rehari, here thus providing much needed exposure to those young boys and girls.
“The initiative to hold series of events on the newly established Handball ground by the Trust would go a long way in popularising the game in J&K. Involvement of teams belt forces and departmental sides like J&K Police on regular basis certainly help improve the game of those talented stuff,” said chief guest on the occasion, Dr S M Bali, Joint Secretary, Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
Earlier, accompanied by senior Handball players and members of the Trust, Dr Bali interacted with the teams and wished the organisers success in their endeavours.
Former India Handball player and DySP with J&K Police, Akshay Khajuria was guest of honour. Akshay Khajuria and Dr Bali were introduced with the players and young trainees by member trustee of the Trust, Ashutosh Sharma so as to encourage them to work hard and achieve the desired results.
“Today’s was beginning of a series of events in Handball at the School ground. Efforts would be made to involve players from every age group in these competitions,” informed Ashutosh Sharma.
