JAMMU, Apr 19: Jammu West got the better of Jammu South by 9-7 in a close contest final to clinch 12th Bhai Gurubaksh Singh State Korfball Championship held at playing field no-1, Gandhi Nagar here today.
For Jammu West Irfan Choudhary scored 4 goals, while Abeek and Divanshu scored 3 and 2 goals respectively, while from Jammu South, Mohit scored 3 goals, while Shubham scored 2 and Jatinderpal and Deepanti scores 1 goal each.
The contest went right down to the wire as both teams played of their skins to bag top honours.
T S Wazir, Ex. MLC and life president J&K Korfball Association was the chief guest on the occasion, who gave away winner and runners-up trophies to the teams.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Wazir said that the players of J&K State have tremendous talent to prove their mettle even at the highest level and the only thing is to provide them all necessary facilities.
The tournament was organized by J&K State Korfball Association under the aegis of J&K State Sports Council wherein 14 teams drawn from 12 districts participated and the tournament was inaugurated on earlier on March 27 and the final match was postponed due to heavy rain and bad weather.
Prominant among other present on the ocassion included J B S Bali, Joint Secretary State Sports Council; Brij Bloria, member J&K State Sports Council; Talok Singh, president of the Association, K S Rishi, general secretary ,Usha Chuni, vice president and Manjeet Singh,secretary of the Association.
The match was officiated by Manjeet Singh and Tarandeep Singh.
