SRINAGAR, Oct 16: District Jammu emerged overall winner in the three days 5th J&K State Handball Championship, which concluded today at Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Stadium here today.
The championship was organized by Ashwani Kumar Raina, General Secretary, J&K Handball Association in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council.
Mubashir Hassan, Director State Cricket Academy was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who gave away the winners and runners-up trophies. He also gave individual prizes to the participants.
Mubashir Hassan said the State is rich of sports talent and sportsmen from the State have proven their mettle at different national and international championships, adding that proper nurturing by the JKHA will go a long way in promoting the talent at different levels.
Earlier General Secretary of the J&K Handball Association, Ashwani Kumar Raina presented the welcome address.
The final match in women section was played between District Jammu and District Udhampur in which District Jammu registered win by 20-3. The main scorer for District Jammu was Arushi who scored 6 goals, while Megha scored 4 goals and Poonam Rajput netted 3 goals.
In men section, the final match was played between District Jammu and District Udhampur in which District Jammu defeated District Udhampur by 52- 34 goals. the main scorer for District Jammu was Variender Singh, who scored 18 goals, while Gaurav scored 10 goals and Sahil Padha netted 12 goals.
The player of the tournament award was presented to Variender Singh.
The matches were officiated by Vinay Sharma, Handball Coach J&K State Sports Council, Anil Dogra, Megha, Chander Shekhar and Rohit.
