Jammu district emerges overall champion in 11th State Wushu C’ship

JAMMU, May 14: The 3-day 11th J&K State Wushu Championship concluded at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
Ranjeet Kalra, Member BCCI and J&K State Sports Council was the chief guest on the occasion, while Dr Ashutosh Sharma, general secretary J&K Olympic Association and Deepak Handa were the guests of honour.
District Jammu emerged overall champion with maximum number of medals in the Championship, while Samba and Udhampur districts clinched 2nd and 3rd spots respectively.
Mr Kalra while speaking on the occasion applauded the efforts of Wushu Association of J&K for promoting this combat sports to every nook and corner of the State, bringing laurels at National and International levels.
Quoting example of 35th National Games held at Kerala recently, Mr Kalra said that excellent results in such prestigious games portraits picture of the hard work by J&K Wushu Association, headed by National coach Kuldeep Handoo.
Dr Sharma also congratulated the winners of the event and Wushu Association of J&K for bagging galaxy of medals in the National Games.
Kuldeep Handoo, general secretary of the Association presented the vote of thanks and thanked J&K State Sports Council and J&K Police for their cooperation and support.
He also gave detailed report of the achievements in this sport during the year 2014-15. He said apart from winning one International medal, J&K has clinched 4 medals in the National Games and 16 medals in various national championships in all groups.
The chairman of the Association, S owais, and president of the Association, H K Lohia congratulated the organizers for smooth and successful conduct of the championship.
Prominent  among others present on the occasion were Principal GD Goennka, R P Singh, Ajay Paul Gill, Ravinder Singh, Abhishek Jain and Sharat Chander.
