KATHUA, Sept 11: Outplaying hosts Kathua district in a close contest by 4 wickets, Jammu district boys lifted the title trophy of the Divisional Level Inter-District Under-17 Boys Cricket Championship, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, District Kathua at Billawar, today.
ADC Billawar, Joginder Singh Rai was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams, while Vishwajeet Singh, Tehsildar Billawar was the guest of honour.
Earlier, batting first, Kathua district rode on brilliant 38 runs off 40 balls by Nishank Mahajan and 22 runs off 17 balls by Akhil Dub and scored 124 runs in the stipulated 16 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process. Right-arm leg spinner, Abhay Tandon was the wrecker-in-chief, who scalped 5 important wickets.
In reply, Jammu district chased the target in 15.1 overs by losing 6 wickets to win the match by 4 wickets. Aditpal Singh top scored with power-packed 29 runs off 17 balls, while Musaif Ajaz contributed valuable 22 runs off 21 balls. From Kathua district, Daleep and Kamalpreet Singh bagged 2 wickets each. Abhay Tandon was declared as the man of the match for his superb bowling display. Jammu district team was accompanied by Mohd Farooq (PEM) as manager cum coach. Abhay Tandon was declared man of the series and Nityam Abrol as best bowler.
The matches were officiated by Parbat Singh, Jai Pal, Rajeev Khajuria, AsHoK Manhas, Mohan Lal Dub, Pardeep Sharma, Vikas Gupta, Raj Pal, Manjeet Singh, Ashok Kumar and Vikas Gupta.
Speaking on the occasion, ADC Billawar lavished praise on the organizers for holding the event to help young cricketers to hone their skill and talent.
He said, the State Govt is leaving no stone unturned in promoting sports and games in the nooks and corners of the State.
