J&K-Gujarat match hangs in balance; Vishal, Janib take 5 wkts each

JAMMU, Feb 12: Left-arm spinner Vishal Kumar and right-arm off-spinner Janib Javaid shared honours by taking 5 wicket hauls as the Men’s U-23 CK Nayudu Trophy match between Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat was almost equally poised at stumps on Day-2 at Sardar Patel Stadium, Valsad, Gujarat today.
Chasing a target of 332 runs, Jammu and Kashmir were 93/3 at the end of day’s play today. Skipper Shivansh Sharma was at the crease on 31 runs, while Kanhaiya Wadhawan was unbeaten on 23 runs. Rhdham Sharma (23), Qazi Junaid (6) and batting mainstay Yawer Hassan (6) were the three batters sent back to the pavilion. Shen Patel, YD Zala and SM Prajapati claimed one wicket each for Gujarat.
Earlier, on Day-1, Gujarat after batting first, bundled out for paltry 104 runs as Vishal Kumar, Janib Javaid and Basit Bashir bagged 4, 3 and 2 wickets respectively, while in reply J&K collapsed at 100, thus conceding a slender lead of 4 runs to Gujarat as YD Zala captured 6 wickets and Jay Malusare bagged 2.
Gujarat in the second essay rode on Rishi Patel’s 123 off 177 balls studded with 10 fours and 3 sixes, to score a good total of 335 runs. YD Zala also scored 51 runs. For J&K, Vishal Kumar captured 5 wickets by conceding 103 runs in 36 overs, while Janib Javaid bagged 5 wickets by giving away 103 runs in 25.3 overs. With two days of play left in the match, J&K still needed 247 runs for victory, while Gujarat needed 7 wickets.
