J&K drubs Haryana by 32 runs; registers second consecutive win

JAMMU, Oct 22: Powered by fabulous performances by Shubam Khajuria, Ahmed Banday, Rohit Sharma, Lone Nazir and Abid Mushtaq, Jammu and Kashmir outplayed Haryana by 32 runs to register their second consecutive win in the ongoing BCCI’s Under-19 boys North Zone Vinoo Mankad Cricket Tournament at Lahli in Haryana today.
Earlier, put into bat, J&K riding on a splendid opening partnership of 133 runs between Shubam Khajuria and Ahmad Banday managed to score a modest total of 187 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Shubam scored brilliant 72 runs off 102 balls, studded with 6 boundaries and 2 sixes, while Banday contributed 55 runs off 82 balls with the help of 3 fours and one six. Aaqib Nazir (15) and Abid Mushtaq (12) were the other contributors. Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 6 which included one maximum. For Haryana, VV Kalkal was the pick of the bowlers, who scalped 4 important wickets by conceding just 32 runs in 12 overs, while SU Yadav bagged 2 and JD Phogat claimed one.
In reply, HJ Rana’s 58 runs and HM Bishnol’s 32 were not good enough for Haryana to save them from a defeat, as they were bundled out for 155 runs in 40.1 overs, thus lost the match by a margin of 32 runs. Phogat and LS Kumar chipped in with 18 and 13 runs respectively. For Jammu and Kashmir, speedsters Rohit Sharma and Lone Nazir and left-arm spinner Abid Mushtaq claimed 3 wickets each, while Aaqib Nazir bagged one wicket. The J&K team is being accompanied by Ashesh Sharma as manager, while Showkat Ali and Mubashar Hassan are the joint manager and coach respectively.
