
61st National School Games U-17 Girls Cricket C’ship concludes

JAMMU, Dec 2: Jammu and Kashmir thrashed Telangana by 6 wickets in the summit clash to lift the title trophy of the 61st National School Games-2015-16 in the discipline of Cricket Under-17 Girls, organized by the Directorate General, Youth Services & Sports, under the auspices of School Games Federation of India (SGFI), which concluded here today.
Andhra Pradesh bagged the third place by defeating Punjab in the hardliner.
Minister for Information Technology, Technical Education and Youth Services and Sports, Imran Raza Ansari was the chief guest on the occasion, while Padmashree Satpal, president School Games Federation of India (SGFI) was the guest of honour. Director General Youth Services and Sports, Jahangir Mir, under whose patronage the event was held, was present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Padmashree Satpal lavished praise on the organizers for organizing the event smoothly and successfully. He shared his experience with the participants.
President, SGFI congratulated Jammu and Kashmir team for winning gold medal. He also appreciated the managers, coaches and selectors of J&K team for providing good guidance and best coaching to the players. “Teacher is torch bearer for the students as the Priest to God” he added. He said that he was extremely happy on seeing that 17 year old girls were playing as seriously as international players. Mr. Satpal assured the Youth Services and Sports Department of every support for organizing national games in every discipline.
Earlier, Jahangir Mir, Director General Youth Services and Sports presented welcome address and highlighted the achievements and activities of the Department.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were senior vice president SGFI, Ashok Kumar, Joint Director Youth Services and Sports, Jammu, Madan Lal, Deputy Director (C), Haji Mirza Hussain and Shiv Kumar Sharma, Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council.
Earlier, in the final match, J&K skipper Sanjana won the toss and put Telangana into bat.
Batting first, Telangana scored a fighting total of 104 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Keerti Reddy was the top scorer with 39 runs, while Trisha Poojita contributed 29 runs to the total. For J&K Aditi, Sanjana and Ishani claimed one wicket each.
J&K, in reply, chased the total in 17.5 overs by losing 4 wickets, thus won the match by 6 wickets to claim the title. Pushpa top scored with 38 runs, while Aditi contributed valuable 26 runs. Trisha took 2 wickets and Harleen one.
In the hardliner match, AP defeated Punjab in a one-sided affair by 8 wickets.
Punjab scored 72 runs in the stipulated 15 overs, while AP chased the target in just 11.2 overs by losing 2 wickets, thus won the match by 8 wickets to win third place.
The matches were officiated by Nazir Ahmed, Saleem-ur-Rehman and BK Tickoo, under the supervision of Rajesh Dhar.
The Jammu and Kashmir team was accompanied by Anju Gupta as manager, while Pankaj Sasan and Satika Sharma were the coaches. The team was selected by Rajesh Dhar, Lecturer in Physical Education and Anju Gupta, Zonal Physical Education Officer.
