J&K wins 6 medals in KIYG; Bavleen blossoms, Kabra dazzles

JAMMU, Jan 14: Jammu and Kashmir won 6 medals in the ongoing 3rd edition of prestigious Khelo India Youth Games, being held under the aegis of Union Ministry for Youth Affairs and Sports at Guwahati in Assam.
Gymnast Bavleen Kour, who was the star performer in the 2nd edition of the KIYG held at Pune in Maharashtra last year, again won 5 medals with 2 gold and 3 silver.
In a very close competition with senior National champions and international players Aditte (50.95) of Maharashtra and Richa (47.00) also from Maharashtra, Bavleen got a total of (50.45) points and clinched silver medal. She won two gold and two silver in individual apparatus finals in Hoop, Ball, Clubs and Ribbon events.
Two more Gymnasts Vandhana and Sneha Dewan from J&K also qualified for the finals.
Judoka Kabra Altaf also claimed bronze medal.
Jammu and Kashmir is at 20th spot in the medal tally, with Maharashtra at the top and Haryana & Delhi on number-2 and number-3 positions respectively.
Director General Youth Services and Sports, J&K, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman, who is at Guwahati in connection with these Games, lauded the efforts of Bavleen and Kabra for their outstanding show at KIYG.
He said that Bavleen is simply an inspiration for the young female sportspersons of Jammu and Kashmir.
President J&K Gymnastics Association and Vice President, Gymnastics Federation of India, Kiran Wattal has congratulated Bavleen for this remarkable display of skill and talent.
