JAMMU, Dec 22: On the final day of 22nd National Forest Sports Meet held in Bangalore, the J&K Forests teams repeated their previous history and won the gold medals in Football, Billiards, Snookers and a silver medal in Cricket.
In Football, the J&K Forests defeated Goa by a margin of 2-0 goals, while as in Billiards and Snookers the games were totally dominated by the J&K Forests and clinched the final trophies convincingly.
In Cricket, the J&K team remained runners-up and won the silver medal. In other games also, the J&K tams performed well.
The highlight of the event was that the J&K Forest Minister, Bali Bhagat, participated in the National Forest Games in the final of Football match which was played between Goa and Jammu and Kashmir and won by the J&K. By playing in the final, the Minister has set a record of becoming the only Forest Minister in the Country to play in the prestigious event.
“The presence of the Minister and senior forest officers in the event boosted the moral of the players throughout the tournament, with the result the players did extraordinary well in all the games and brought laurel for the State”, expressed the officials accompanying J&K contingent.
The Minister congratulated the players and their coaches for the achievements in this national event.
He said sports and games are a vital part of the Forest Department which help the officials to keep physically as well as mentally fit. He said the government will further promote the sports culture in the other departments and explore possibilities to organize inter-department and inter-State tournaments in different games.
