LEH, Feb 6: In a nail biting final of 10th CEC Ice Hockey Cup 2017, ITBP trounced Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre (LSRC) in the third session of extra time allotted to decide the match which remained leveled at 0-0, till the completion of 60 minutes stipulated time and also during first two sessions of 5 minutes each given as extra time.
None of the teams could score any goal during the stipulated time of 60 minutes. Later, the match was extended by another 10 minutes of 5 minutes session each but even then score remained zero with both sides failing to make a goal. It was another 5 minutes’ session in which ITBP managed to score a lone goal to clinch the final.
The final of 10th CEC Ice Hockey Cup 2017 organised by the Ladakh Winter Sports Club and District Youth Services and Sports Leh was played at Karzoo Ice Hockey Rink, here on Sunday.
Chief Guest CEC LAHDC Leh Dr Sonam Dawa said that both played a thrilling match and winning and losing is part of the game but the game was played with tremendous spirit.
“I feel proud to see the budding young players of Ladakh representing at National and International levels,” said Dr Dawa while urging them to continue to play with enthusiasm in future.
In another match Saichen Angles lifted the Women Ice Hockey Cup while Secmol Girls stood second.
Earlier presenting the welcome speech, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Tsering Tashi expressed his gratitude towards the participants and spectators for the overwhelming response in spite of heavy snowfall making the tournament more adventurous. Later, Chief Guest distributed prizes among the winners.
LAHDC EC Works Dorjay Mutup, Councillors, ITBP Commandant Staff Deepak Panday and LSRC Col N.J Singh and a large number of spectators were also present to witness the match. Later ITBP players and other Jawans took out a roadshow from Karzoo to ITBP Campus alongwith the cup.
Earlier, LSRC band party performed on the ice rink for the first time to entertain the spectators.
