SRINAGAR, Apr 19: To inculcate the importance of physical fitness among the students, an inter-school road race was organized by Department of Youth Services & Sports in Srinagar in which around one thousand enthusiastic students participated.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, who was the chief guest on the occasion, flagged-off the rally near the Oberoi Palace along the Boulevard road along the banks of Dal Lake.
The race was held for three age groups-under-14, under-17 and under-19. Students from around 60 government-run and private schools of the district participated in the road race.
The road race culminated at Nishat garden on the eastern side of Dal Lake after the student participants covered a distance of 6-km run.
Later a prize distribution ceremony was held in the garden to felicitate the winners of the road race. In under-14 category Basharat Ahmad Mir from Burn Hall School, Shahid Amin Mir of Abhay Mission School and Imdad Ali of GBHS Nandapora bagged first, second and third position respectively.
Similarly in under-17 category Momin Farooq of BHSS Palpora, Azlan of Oak Hill and Hashmat Sulaiman of BHSS Palpora got first, second and third position respectively.
While as in under-19, Umar Farooq of ML BHSS NawaKadal, Asif Khursheed of BHSS Hazratbal and Mohsin Farooq of MP School bagged the first, second and third position respectively.
On the occasion Youth Services & Sports, Directorate of Health Services Kashmir, Police and Traffic departments besides Red Cross Society had kept elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the rally.
