Inter-School Debate Trophy launched

LEH, Nov 14: National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) today launched its Inter-School Debate Trophy in collaboration with District Administration.
The first edition of Trophy was held at Sindhu Sanskriti Kendra, Leh and Minister for Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora and Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Rigzin Spalbar were the chief guests on the occasion while as Deputy Commissioner, Simrandeep Singh was the guest of honour.
About 54 participants from 27 Government and Private Schools participated in the debate, the topic for which was “Voting in Elections should be made a fundamental duty”.
Deputy Commissioner pointed out that the topic was specifically chosen in view of the coming elections and in view of the ongoing SVEEP campaign being carried out in Leh. He added that Leh hosts events like International Film Festival and International Marathon but lacks in hosting events like Quiz and Debate Competitions for children.
Accordingly, NHPC was roped in as a partner to sponsor the event. The other sponsors of the event included the Election Commission of India, LAHDC, State Government, State Bank of India and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghathan.
The debate was won by Mahabodhi International Public School Leh while DPS Leh and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya stood Second and Third respectively. Cash prizes amounting to Rs 10,000 besides trophies and certificates were distributed to the winners.
