Inter-Departmental Sports Tourney inaugurated at BGSBU

RAJOURI, Apr 6: Professor Akbar Masood, Vice Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) inaugurated Inter-Departmental Sports Tournament-2021, organized by the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports at University Campus, here today.
While inaugurating the tournament, Vice Chancellor Prof Akbar Masood who was chief guest on the occasion said that sports and games are the integral aspects of a student’s life. “Sports and games have many benefits and other than physical wellbeing. It upsurges the confidence, self-respect and mental ability which are the essentials for personal and professional development of an individual,” he added.
Prof Akbar urged the students to engage in sports for physical and mental development. He further said that the University would make every possible effort to provide state-of-the-art sports infrastructure to encourage the participation of students in different sports activities.
He said that the University has established ‘BGSBU Sports Club’ and captions various teams which will be honoured with the Coveted University Blazer and Awards.
Earlier, OSD of Directorate of Physical Education and Sports Mohammad Rashid Chowdhary introduced different teams and informed that in the tournament 42 teams representing different departments are going to participate.
Four Volleyball matches were played during the opening day between teams of Teaching and Non Teaching, Department of Mathematics and Department of Physics , SOET-A and SOET-B and SOET-C and SOET-D wherein team of Teaching faculty, Mathematics , SOET-D and SOET-A emerged winners, whereas in Table Tennis, Team-E won the title by 2-1, whereas Teachers team won the title in singles category with the help of Er Waseem Shahnaz, Er Hyder Mehraj , Ed Gowhar, Dr Sanjay Jamwal and Er Vishal Sharma.
Dean Academic Affairs Prof Iqbal Parwez, Dean of Students Prof G M Malik, Registrar Mohd Ishaq, Heads of various departments, faculty members, officers of the University were also present during the inaugural ceremony.
