REASI, Nov 16: Divisional Level Inter-Collegiate Fencing Championship for boys and girls commenced at the Multipurpose Sports Hall, here today.
The championship is being organized by the Department of Physical Education and Sports, University of Jammu in collaboration with GDC Reasi.
The grand event commenced on the arrival of various teams from different colleges of Jammu division.
The chief guest on the occasion was Chairperson DDC Reasi, Saraf Singh Nag, who inaugurated the championship.
The welcome speech was given by the Principal GDC Reasi Prof Kulvinder Kour.
The first demonstration bout was presented by Prof Ajay Kumar of GDC Reasi and fencers were introduced to the chief guest Saraf Sing Nag who inspired the participants to do better. He also spoke about the significance of sports activities.
Two fencers of the first demonstration bout were Parshant Chib and Gourav Thakur and the referee was Ranchan Agarval. Gourav Thakur was announced as the winner of the first demonstration bout by 5:1.
A solo song was sung by a student of GDC Reasi, Geeta Devi. The second demonstration bout was between Rohit Thakur and Parvinder Sharma, in which latter emerged winner by 5:1.
It was followed by the cultural event, a group dance presented by the students of GDC Reasi.
Prof. Samriti Aggarwal of GDC Reasi presented a vote of thanks.
