Indu, Varun present research work in Annual Conference of ISHG

JAMMU, Feb 15: J&K students Varun Sharma and Indu Sharma, MSc in Biotechnology from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra presented the research work at 39th Annual Conference of Indian Society of Human Genetics (ISHG) at Ahmedabad in Gujarat.
Over 4000 National and international delegates attended the Conference, the theme of which was “Healthy Genes-Healthy Life”.
The presented study, “mtDNA G10398A Variation Provides Risk to Type 2 Diabetes in Population Group from Jammu region of India,” has been carried out under the supervision of Dr Swarkar Sharma, Dr Ekta Rai and Dr Vinod Singh at School of Biotechnology, SMVDU.
The study indicates a genetic variation in a mitochondrial gene, probably affecting insulin secretion mechanism in human body as a risk factor. This genetic variation is found to increase risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, the late age onset of diabetes in population of Jammu region.
