SRINAGAR, Aug 5: Government will be providing multi-utility indoor stadiums to all the 22 districts of the State to groom sports talent among the youth.
This information was given at a meeting convened here today to review the activities of the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council.
The meeting was chaired by Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Imran Raza Ansari.
Commissioner/Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Hilal Ahmad Parray and Secretary J&K Sports Council, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra besides other officers were present at the meeting.
The meeting was informed that the Government of India has provided Rs 4 crore each for construction of indoor sports stadiums in all the 22 districts of the State.
“These stadiums would offer multi-utility sports facilities for the local youth to groom their talent,” the meeting was told.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of other projects including upgradation and renovation of the existing sports stadiums in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister called for expediting work on all the projects to make available world class sports infrastructure to the local youth.
He said Rs 200 crore have been provided under Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) for reconstruction of the existing stadia on international specifications, creation of water sports centre at Manasbal and construction of multipurpose indoor sports halls in all districts.
