Kathmandu, Dec 23:
India clinched the title of the inaugural South Asian Women’s Invitational Volleyball Championships after thrashing Bangladesh 3-0 in their last match here today.
The Indians defeated Bangladesh 25-13, 25-6, 25-8 in their last league match to win the title at the National Sports Council (NSC) hall at Tripureshwar here.
Unbeaten India topped the table with four consecutive victories and 12 points, while Nepal, with three wins and nine points, took the second place ahead of Sri Lanka, who lost two of their four matches.
The Indians pocketed a cash prize of USD 2,000 while the runners-up Nepali team received USD 1,000 and Sri Lanka USD 500.
The tournament, which is being held in a round-robin format, has the participation of five nations — Nepal, India, the Maldives, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
India will host the next edition of the championships. (PTI)
