India completely whitewashed; lost by 0-5 to Spain in World Group Play-off

New Delhi, Sept 18:
Indian tennis player Ramkumar Ramanathan lost to  David Ferrer in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, as Spain  completely whitewashed the  hosts 5-0 in the World Group Play-off tie at RK Khanna stadium here  tonight.
Earlier, in the first rubber match Marc Lopez defeated Sumit Nagal 6-3,  1-6, 6-3 giving Spain 4-0 lead. As the first set begins Ferrer starts off with 1-0 lead.
A bad beginning for Ramkumar as his serve is broken by Spaniard, however,  the Indian comes back strongly, but still trails 1-2 in the first set.
Ferrer again breaks Ramkumar’s serve and the Spaniard leads 3-1. The  Spaniard fetches one point takes 4-1 lead. A comfortable hold of serve for Ramkumar Ramanathan, trails David Ferrer  2-4 in the first set.
Meanwhile, Ferrer holds serve easily to lead 5-2 in the first set. The  Spaniard breaks Ramkumar Ramanathan’s serve yet again to take the set 6-2.
In then second set both the players level up score to 1-1 as the game  continues scores are levelled 2-2.
However, Ferrer holds serve scores 3-2. The Spaniard breaks Ramkumar’s  serve with 4-2 lead as the game is slipping away from Ramkumar, Ferrer is  inching towards victory leads 5-2.
Meanwhile, Ramkumar serves to stay in the match, but Ferrer breaks the  Indian serve to win it comfortably 6-2. (UNI)
