Himalayan Hawks drubs City Club in ‘Forever in Ops Ice Hockey Tournament’

DRASS, Feb 2: In the second coldest inhabitant place in the world Drass in Kargil district, Himalayan Hawks Drass lifted Forever in Ops Ice Hockey Tournament which was held here today.
Himalayan Hawks defeated City Club Drass in an exciting contest by a solitary goal.
The tournament was organized by Himalayan Sports and Cultural organization in collaboration with India Army.
Brigadier Ganpati and Advisor to CEC LAHDC Kargil, Haji Mohammad Shafi were the guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Amin Polo, organizer of the tournament said that Kargil and Drass areas have huge potential of winter tourism.
“If the Zojilla Tunnel will open then Drass will open for winter tourism and sports, “Amin said.
He further added that such games are only popular in western countries but in India Ice hockey is only being played in Jammu and Kashmir particularly Drass, Kargil and Leh areas of Ladakh region.
Mohammad Javed, Himalayan Hawks Player said that there is a great scope of winter sports in Kargil in particular and in Ladakh in general as the whole National team is constituted of the players from Ladakh and the Government should focus on promoting the game in the region.
He further added that financial problem has kept many talented players at bay as the equipments are very costly due to which an ordinary person cannot efforts and thanked the Indian Army for all kind of support to the players.
