Hilal, Dhruv help Simula to lift JTP T20 title

JAMMU, Oct 14: Superb display of bowling by the trio of Hilal Rather, Manik Gupta and Ramdayal Punia and a masterly knock of unbeaten 53 runs by skipper Dhruv Mahajan, helped Simula Cricket Club to drub JKP XI by 8 wickets and lift Jammu Tawi Premier (JTP) T20 Cricket Cup title at MA Stadium, here today.
Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Kiran Wattal was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams on the occasion. Romesh Mahajan, working committee member JKCA and member provincial committee was the guest of honour.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, JKP XI bundled out for a paltry total of 76 runs in 17.3 overs. Rajesh Gill was the top scorer with 17 runs, studded with 3 boundaries, while Farooq and Yasir Ali contributed 15 and 10 runs to the total respectively. For Simula Club, Hilal Rather was the pick of the bowlers, who plotted collapse of the rival team alongwith Manik Gupta and Ramdayal. Rather and Manik scalped 3 important wickets each, while Ramdayal took 2 and Vikram claimed one.
In reply, Simula Club powered by a magnificent innings of unbeaten half-century by Dhruv Mahajan scored the required runs in just 9 overs, thus won the match by 8 wickets. In form Dhruv scored 53 runs off 37 balls with the help of 8 delectable fours and one massive six. He was simply on song and hit the ball to the delight of the spectators. Hardeep Singh also contributed unbeaten 11 runs to the total. For JKP XI, Anshuman took the 2 wickets to fall. Hilal Rather was adjudged man of the match for his superb bowling show. Rompy Sharma was declared man of the series, while Dhruv Mahajan and Hilal Rather bagged best batsman and best bowler awards respectively.
The match was officiated by Sandeep Manchanda and Rajinder Singh as umpires, while Rahul Mattoon and Yogesh Sharma were the scorers.
Meanwhile, the winners and runners-up teams of Simula Budding Cricketers T20 Tournament were also felicitated on the occasion.
The tournament was organized under the overall supervision of organizing committee including RK Bhat, Ankush Abrol, Rajesh Dhar, Vikram Singh and Shashi Paul, organizing secretary.
