JAMMU, June 17: The Government College of Education Jammu achieved a new level when it collaborated with Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE), Department of Higher Education of Union Ministry of Education.
NSS unit of GCOE under the patronage of Cluster University of Jammu organized a workshop titled “Psychological support for COVID Pandemic Condition”. Dr Shubhra Jamwal (NSS Programme Officer) addressed the faculty and students with her inspirational words and efficiently conducted the program along with the NSS volunteers.
The highly contextual workshop was envisioned to equip the student community with COVID Helper’s skill so that they may contribute in channelizing their energies in the fight against the pandemic.
Samarth Sharma of MGNCRE was the guest speaker and the resource person for the event that benefitted around 100 students. He said that with the experience of emotions like anxiety, stress, uncertainty and fear adding to the woes of the COVID patients, it is imperative that they get adequate psychological and social support in order to effectively manage their condition.
Elucidating the difference between sympathy and empathy, he demonstrated how to become a COVID helper and being a COVID helper, show empathy towards COVID patients and counsel them for improving their psychological well being.
Dr Kulvinder Kour, Principal GCOE inaugurated the programme and highlighted the importance of a strong psychological support systems during such unprecedented times.
The vote of thanks was presented by Prof Vinay Lata, Head Counselling Cell. Dr Shushma Bala and Prof Satish Sharma were also present on the occasion. The workshop was a highly interactive one wherein students shared their novel ideas and endeavoured to provide support to the COVID patients.
