JAMMU, Mar 31: Formidable Haryana lifted the Sanshou title, while strong Manipur won the overall championship in Taolu event and hosts Jammu and Kashmir bagged the runners-up trophy in the Sanshou event of the 17th Sub- Junior National Wushu Championship, organized by the Wushu Association of J&K, under the aegis of Wushu Association of India, which concluded at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here.
Director General of Police (DGP), Dr SP Vaid was the chief guest on the closing ceremony, who distributed trophies among the winners and runners-up teams and declared the Championship closed in presence of a galaxy of dignitaries including Ranjeet Kalra, Vice Chairman Sports Council Jammu, Vijay Saraf, Vice President Wushu Association of India, Suhel Ahmed, General Secretary of Wushu Association of India, Dr SM Bali, Dr Ashutosh Sharma, SSP Manoj Pandita, Sunil Sharma, Manish Kakkar, Deepak Handa and Kuldeep Handoo, Chief Wushu Coach of India.
Speaking on the occasion, DGP lavished praise on the organizers and said that sports serves for delight, for ornament and for agility.
Earlier, in his address, Ranjeet Kalra, Vice President Wushu Association of J&K, thanked Minister for Sports, Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari, DGP Dr SP Vaid and Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra for their support and supervision in making the event a big success.
900 athletes and 200 officials drawn from 37 affiliate State Units across the Country participated in the event to vie for the top honours.
While Haryana bagged the title in Sanshou event, Jammu and Kashmir and Odisha emerged as the runners-up and 2nd runners-up respectively.
In Taolu, Manipur won the title, while Madhya Pradesh and Delhi claimed second and third places respectively.
Vote of thanks was presented by Vijay Saraf, President Wushu Association of J&K, while the proceedings of the valedictory function were conducted by anchor Rajesh Dhar.
