POONCH, Feb 19: Prominent Gujjar leader Shamsher Hakla Poonchi urged Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to nominate women from the Gujjar and Bakerwal community as the members of State Women Commission and J&K Legislative Council.
In a statement issued, Hakla said the literacy rate among Gujjar and Bakerwal women is very low and concerted efforts are required to be taken in this regard by the Government.
He said the “Beti-Bachao and Bati Padhao” slogan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi should be implemented in letter and spirit in the areas where Gujjar and Bakarwal community resides.
He also demanded opening of boarding schools for Gujjar and Bakarwal girls in Jammu and Kashmir.
Hakla appealed to Women Commission to take steps for the betterment and welfare of Gujjar and Bakerwal women.
