LEH, Apr 27: Green Ladakh Marathon, the School Level long-distance running competition, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports was held here today.
The event, in which over 450 students of Government and Private Institutions of Leh and Chushot Block participated, was sponsored by J&K Bank and State Bank of India, Leh.
CEC LAHDC, Rigzin Spalbar was the chief guest on the occasion, who impressed upon the students to participate in games and sports, stay rooted to moral and cultural values and avoid getting habitual to bad habits.
Appreciating J&K Bank, Leh and SBI, Leh for sponsoring the marathon, Spalbar requested them to organize such sports activities in rural areas of Leh through their Corporate Social Responsibility schemes and funds.
CEC Rigzin Spalbar and EC Sports Abass Abidi later gave away the medals and certificates to the winners.
In Under-19 boys and girls, Lamdon Senior Higher Secondary School, Leh swept all the 6 medals. Jigmet Norboo, Tsewang Thinlay and Tsewang Gyaltson of Lamdon Senior Higher Secondary School, Leh finished the 10 km distance with the timing of 48:36, 50:13 and 50:50 respectively, while in Under-19 girls, Stanzin Yangdol, Tsering Angmo and Yangzin Dolma of Lamdon Senior Higher Secondary School, Leh completed the 8 km distance with the timing of 38:10, 39:20 and 34:50 respectively.
Meanwhile, in Under-17 boys 8 km marathon, Stanzin Kunphel of High School Mahabodhi with the timing of 28:16, Tsetup Dorjey of High School Colony with his timing 28:31 and Tashi Zangpo (28:46) bagged first, second and third position respectively, while in Under-17 girls, Stanzin Yangchen and Sonam Ladol of Moravian Mission School, Leh finished 6 km distance with the timing of 21:34 and 22:8 while as Tsering Yangskit of High School Stok bagged third position with her personal time of 22:10.
In Under-14 boys 6 km race, Sonam Tundup of Middle School Spituk won the gold medal while as Mohd Hussain and Gutam Kumar of Middle School, Leh bagged silver and bronze medal respectively while in Under-14 girls, Diskit Dolma and Stanzin Tsomo of Middle School Skara bagged first and second position respectively, while the position was bagged by Rinchen Yangdol of Middle School Sankar.
