Governor felicitates 35th National Games medalists

JAMMU, Mar 19: In a function held here at the Raj Bhavan this evening, Governor N N Vohra, felicitated the sportspersons from the State who had won medals at the 35th National Games which were held at Kerala from January 31 to February 14, 2015.
In the National Games sportsmen and women from J&K who participated in Gymnastics, Wushu, Boxing, Fencing, Kayaking and Canoeing won 15 medals including 3 Gold, 2 Silver and 10 Bronze medals.
The Governor interacted with the medal winners who shared their Games’ experiences with him. He lauded the medalists for their excellent performances and wished them higher success in all future competitions.
The Governor assured to extend all possible help for the promotion of sports activities in the State and invited the J&K Sports Council to draw benefit from the Sports Stadium which has been developed at Katra by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. The Governor, who is the Chairman of the Shrine Board assured the Board’s support for the encouragement of sports activities in the State and urged Navin Agarwal, Director General Youth Services and Sports, to organize inter college and inter district sports competitions for improving sports in the State. He asked the DG to send him a well considered proposal for the Shrine Board to adopt one or more medalist, for being enabled to win at the international level.
The medalists present on the ocassion were Palak Kour, Mridul, Pawandeep Kour, Bhanu Pratap, Sandeep Singh, Vishal Thappa, Rashid Ahmad, Ujjawal Gupta, Pradeep Sharma and Ms. Anju Bala. Their coaches including, Krupali Patel Singh and S.P Singh, Gymnastic Coaches; Kuldeep Handoo, Wushu Trainer, Shotu Lal, Fencing Instructor and Anil Wadhera, Boxing Coach were also present on the occasion.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Navin Agarwal, Director General Youth Services and Sports; Sardar Rangil Singh and Prof Asutosh Sharma.
