Srinagar, July 6: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today congratulated Parvez Rasool, a promising cricketer from the state, on his selection in Team India for the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe.
In his message, the Governor observed that the youth of J&K are highly talented and given the enabling opportunities they can excel in sports, academics and all other arenas of human endeavour.
The Governor observed that the selection of Parvez in Team India would not only promote cricket in the state but will also inspire and encourage many young cricketers and other sports persons from each of the three regions of J&K to emulate Parvez and earn laurels for the State.
The Governor has written to Parvez and invited him to visit him at the Raj Bhavan.
He has also wished him a spectacular career ahead.
Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti today visited Rasool’s residence to congratulate the cricketer for his selection in the Indian team.
Mehbooba, who was accompanied by PDP chief spokesman Naeem Akhtar, felicitated Rasool’s parents for their son’s accomplishment, a statement issued by the party said.
Mehbooba said Rasool has shown the way for talented youth of the state that they can make their mark, in whatever field, if given the chance to do so.
She said Rasool’s achievement is highly laudable as he stood out in the highly competitive game of cricket despite all odds and inspite of the fact that he comes from a humble background.
Mehbooba wished a long and distinguished career for Rasool and luck for his upcoming Zimbabwe tour.
The PDP president said despite huge money available for promotion of sports especially cricket, the state government has failed to tap the talent of the local youth. She alleged that J&K Cricket Association is not only corruption-ridden but has been almost made defunct. (PTI)
