JAMMU, Nov 13: Governor N. N. Vohra has called for further enlarging and strengthening the Scouts and Guides movement in the State and its introduction in every school. The Governor, who is the Patron of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, was interacting with a large group of Scouts and Guides who, along with the functionaries of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, called on him at Raj Bhavan here today, in connection with their Annual Flag Day.
Usha Vohra, First Lady, was present on the occasion.
Describing celebration of the Annual Flag Day as a very important event, the Governor congratulated all the functionaries of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides and the Scouts, Guides, Rovers, Rangers and Bulbuls on this happy occasion.
The Governor observed that one of the important aspects of this movement is to enable the students from different parts of State and country to get together in the Camps held from time to time and get exposed to different faiths, languages, customs and lifestyles. He observed that scouting and guiding helps in character building and promoting the spirit of camaraderie and brotherhood which is of vital importance for sustaining the unity and integrity of the country.
The Governor called for the systematic strengthening of movements involving the youth, particularly Scouts and Guides, National Cadet Corps and Red Cross and enhanced focus on sports activities by the educational institutions for securing the balanced and holistic development of the future generations.
The Governor and the First Lady made a contribution to the Annual Flag Day Fund and wished the Scouts and Guides high success in their mission. The Governor called upon all sections of the society to contribute generously to the Annual Flag Day Fund, for facilitating enhanced Scouts and Guides activities in the State.
Earlier, the Scouts and Guides presented Scarves to the Governor, the First Lady; P.K Tripathi, Principal Secretary to the Governor; and pinned on them the Flag Day stickers, which are symbols of the Scouts and Guides movement.
In his welcome address, N.A. Khan, State Chief Commissioner, J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, dwelt on the activities of the organization undertaken in the recent past and those planned for the coming months. He thanked the Governor for taking keen interest in the Scouts and Guides movement and for extending strong support for this purpose.
Roma Wani, Senior Vice President, J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, presented a Vote of Thanks.
Among those present on the occasion were senior functionaries of the organization and large number of Scouts and Guides.
