Goenkans put specticular performance during annual function “Aahvaan”

JAMMU, Dec 12: The students of GD Goenka Public School, Jammu popularly known as “Goenkans” left the audience spell bound during the 7th annual function “Aahvaan-2014” here today.
Governed by Om Prakash Bansal Charitable Trust, GD Goenka Public School celebrated its 7th annual function “Aahvaan-2014” in a very befitting and well-managed way.
On the occasion, the first IPS women officer and recipient of Raman Magsaysay Award Dr Kiran Bedi was the chief guest.
The function began with the lightning of the ceremonial lamp by Dr Kiran Bedi along with Dewan Chand Bansal, Chairman of the School Managing Committee, Rahul Bansal, President of Om Prakash Bansal Charitable Trust and School Management Committee, Sanya Bansal, Director and Principal Dr RP Singh.
Principal of the school Dr RP Singh presented the welcome address and the school Annual Report highlighting the various achievements of the Goenkans, both in curricular and co-curricular activities.
To mark the occasion, students presented a ‘Melody of Dance Drama’ based on the theme ‘Save the Girl Child’. Students presented scintillating cultural items including a number of dances and skits to sensitize the society to save the girl child.
The play began with a marriage dance and the audience was given an insight to a stereotype Indian society. The play depicts that the society is often mislead into believing that women are the weaker sex least realising that it is a woman which brings a man into this world, nurtures him and makes him who he is. It depicted exploitation of women by the society and her response after facing the hurdles in the society.
After the play, the students, who excelled in curricular and co-curricular activities, were awarded by Dr Bedi and school faculty so as to boost their morale.
From Class XI, Shubam was awarded for securing first position in Science stream, while as Indrakshi Koul for bagging first position in Commerce stream.
From Class X, six students namely Anmol Rathore, Kohsheen Pandita, Mrigank Baranwal, Payal Vij, Shivam Rometra and Vishali Koul were awarded for their best performance.
From Class IX, Vanshaj Kerni, Jatin Ganjoo and Yashee Choudhary were awarded for securing first, second and third positions respectively.
From Class VIII, Usman bin Khalid, Malvika Kapoor and Aryan Bazaz were awarded for securing top three positions respectively.
From Class VII, Prachi Bhagat, Priyanshi Kapoor and Tanvi Thappa were awarded for claiming first, second and third positions respectively.
From Class VI, Kritika Mahajan, Abaharan Singh and Aaliya Verma were awarded for notching top three ranks respectively.
Goenkan Laureate award was presented to Indrakshi and Shubham.
The teachers, who performed in sports namely Bhanu Pratap, Danish Padha and Abhijeet Singh were also awarded.
In National Judo Competition held at New Delhi, Prachi Bhagat and Vanshika Manhas, both students of Class VIII-A claimed Gold medals, while as Anshika Manhas of Class VII-B secured Silver medal, Kanishk Bhat of class VII-B bagged Bronze medal and Anisha Sopolia of Class VII-A claimed Bronze Medal.
In National Basketball tournament held at Nasik, two Goenkans namely Gauhar Nagpal and Ruchika Thakur participated in the Sub Junior category. Ananya Handa participated in Youth National School games held at Vishakaptnam.
In Kick-Boxing games, Choudhary Zulkar Nain was adjudged as the best player of the year 2014-15 by Kick Boxing Association J&K, while as in 10th Sub Junior and Junior National Kick Boxing Championship held at Pune in February 2014, Choudhary Zulkar Nain claimed Silver medal, Aqib Mughal and Abhay Sharma secured bronze medals. In 19th Sub Junior and Junior National Kick Boxing Championship held at Guwahati in August 2014, Tarandeep Singh and Sushrat Raina clinched gold medals, Choudhary Zulkar Nain, Shivam Chouhan and Abhay Sharma claimed silver medals and Danish Kumar, Brahmjyot Singh, Rajvansh Singh, Rajvansh Singh, Vanshi Parihar, Amay Pujari, Kshitij Radotra, Anshul Gupta and Rudraksh Sharma claimed bronze medals.
In 19th Junior National Kick Boxing Championship held at Pune in October 2014, Choudhary Zulkar Nain and Danish Kumar bagged silver medals, while as Aqib Mughal and Yousaf Mughal claimed bronze medals.
In 5th International Karate Championship held at Goa, Vishesh Pandita claimed gold medal in Kumite and bronze medal in Kata, Nauman Athar Malik claimed bronze medal in Kumite and Rakshit Mehta secured silver in Kumite.
In 5th International Karate Championship organised by Shito-Ryu-Karate School of India and Indian Olympic Association, Coach Abhijeet Singh Chib (Black Belt dean) thrashed Asian players and bagged Bronze medal.
The Best Artist award was presented to Vedant Handa in boys category, while as in girls category Smridhi Katoch and Aparna Sharma pocketed the award.
Later, ‘Making of Top Cop’, a book written by Dr Kiran Bedi was also released, which added another feather in the cap of GD Goenka School Public.
